Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the impact of perioperative nursing plans based on enhanced recovery after surgery on the recovery
of patients undergoing posterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis.
Method:The study was conducted at Drum Tower Hospital, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, between January 2020 and December
2022, and comprised patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who were randomly divided into experimental group A receiving
enhanced recovery after surgery-based perioperative care, and control group B receiving routine care. Postoperative
complications, wound healing time, hospital stay, and patient satisfaction were compared between the groups. Data was
analysed using SPSS 25.
Results: Of the 100 patients, 50(50%) were in each of the two groups. Age and gender distribution was not significantly
different between the groups (p>0.05). At baseline, the groups were clinically similar (p=0.72), but at one and three months
post-surgery, group A showed significantly more improvement compared to group B (p=0.001). Pain level on days 1 and 3
post-surgery were significantly lower in group A than group B (p=0.01). Group A had a lower incidence of postoperative
complications and shorter hospital stay than group B (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The enhanced recovery after surgery-based perioperative nursing plan significantly improved recovery
outcomes for patients undergoing posterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery.
